Museums Tour

From the traditional to the avant garde, Yerevan's museums are filled to the brim with art to satisfy the most discriminating art lover.

Visit the National Art Gallery and History Museum, and take a peek into Armenia through the ages. The National Art Gallery houses the painting and status of world famous artists, and boasts the largest collection of artifacts dating back to the Stone Age in the entire world! Also visit the Erebouni Museum, with its hundreds of artifacts from Erebouni, Karmir Blur and Armevir, the three principal Urartian cities in the Ararat valley.

You will also visit one of the newest museums in Armenia, built in honor of filmmaker and artist Sergei Parajanov. The Parajanov Museum houses a marvelous collection of his work, and you will see firsthand how he transformed the most mundane item into a fascinating work of art. This museum, built in a reproduction of a 19th century Yerevan home, is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Armenia today. 
 

Sevan Tour

No trip to Armenia is ever complete without a visit to Lake Sevan, one of the largest and highest lakes in Eurasia at about 1900 meters above sea level.

At Lake Sevan you will visit the St. Karapet and St. Arakelots monasteries. Take a serene stroll on the beach, and a boat ride in season. Then when you've worked up an appetite you can taste the most delicious trout, fresh from the lake.

 Sevan & Dilijan Tour

No trip to Armenia is ever complete without a visit to Lake Sevan, one of the largest and highest 

lakes in Eurasia at about 1900 meters above sea level.

At lake Sevan you will visit the St. Karapet and St. Arakelots monasteries. Take a serene stroll on the beach, and a boat ride in season. Then when you've worked up an appetite you can taste the most delicious trout, fresh from the lake.

Dilijan, located in the northern part of Armenia, is famous for its forests and health resorts, its spectacular scenery and cultural centers. You will drive through a plush forest to reach the Haghartsin Monastery, an 11th-13th century church situated deep in the woods , about 18 km from the town of Dilijan.

You will also visit the beautifully landscaped 12th century monastery of Goshavank.

Amberd Tour

Visit the family castle of the Pahlavouni Princes, one of the few castles in Armenia that has been preserved.

Tour the church and the fortress of Amberd, built on a rocky promontory in the 10th to 13th centuries, near Mt. Aragats and the Byurakan Astrophysical Observatory. The domed church was built in 1206, and is one of the most beautiful churches of its type in Armenia.

Beyond the fortress there was a fortified three-story castle made of basalt, built as a military measure, in order to block any invader's access from Aragats. Fragments of the water supply system of the castle, as well as baths and a secret passageway to the canyon, is preserved. You will also see the ruins of the wall and gates of Amberd.
 

Ashtarak & Oshakan Tour

Tour the grand 5th to 6th century Tsiranavor (Orange) Church and the small, 7th century Karmravor (Red) Church in Ashtarak. The Karmravor church is of the cross domed type, and fragments of murals have been preserved in its interior. The small dimensions of this church allow it to be considered a familial church. Other monasteries on this tour are Saghmosavank and Ohanavank, built in 1215 and 1216 respectively.

Your visit also includes a trip to the village of Oshagan. Oshagan was the home of St. Mesrop Mashtots, the 4th century monk who invented the Armenian alphabet. You will visit his tomb as well as a church built in the 5th century and reconstructed in the 19th century. A seminary is located nearby.
 

Echmiadzin, Hripsime, Gayane & Zvartnots Tour

Visit the Echmiadzin Cathedral, the most ancient Christian temple in Armenia, and the Holy See and official residence of the Catholicos of all Armenians. According to tradition, St. Gregory the Illuminator saw a vision of the "Only Begotten" descend from heaven, and show the spot where the church should be erected. In 303 A.D., two years after Christianity was declared the state Religion, the Mother Church of the Holy See was completed. It was rebuilt in the 480s. Through the centuries there have been construction and additions, and the main dome was rebuilt in 1627. The interior murals were painted by Nagash Ovnatan in 1720. The church is surrounded by gardens, were you will see examples of "khachkar"s, or stone crosses. 

You will visit the underground site of the pagan temple upon which the present cathedral stands. You will also visit the Museum, "Gandzaran", which houses exquisite church attire embroidered with gold and pearls, as well as crosses and all kinds of ritual vessels of silver, gold, ivory, adorned with filigree work and jewels, with most items dating back to the 17th through 19th centuries. 

The tour of the museum is available every day except Sunday.

St. Gayane and St. Hripsime Churches

The St. Gayane church is built in the City of Echmiadzin, a short walk from the Cathedral. Built in 630 (according to a chronicle), they are the two oldest churches in Armenia. St. Hripsime is a beautiful example of Armenian architecture of the classical period. 

Zvartnots Cathedral

Visit the magnificent ruins of the Cathedral of Zvartnots, which was built in the 7th century by Catholicos Nerses III. Here a mighty three-tiered circular structure once stood, with a glorious central dome. The Cathedral was magnificently decorated with sculptured floral and geometric patterns and decorative pillars and arches, the ruins and remnants of which you can see on the grounds. 

Zvartnots is considered the masterpiece of Armenian church architecture.

Jermuk  Tour

Travel through one of the most picturesque corners of Armenia and visit the Jermuk resort, famous for its hot mineral springs. People with illnesses flock to these spring waters for their curative and healing qualities. Others enjoy the spa town for the rest, relaxation, and spectacular scenery it offers. The hill upon which the spa town is located is surrounded by lush Alpine vegetation, forests, and the Tsolk waterfall.

Khor Virap Tour  

Khor Virap is the site where St. Gregory the Illuminator was imprisoned by an Armenian king for preaching Christianity. You can climb down into the dark pit yourself, and then treat yourself to the most spectacular view of the glorious Mt. Ararat.

You will also visit the Paruyr Sevak Memorial Museum, home of the most beloved Armenian contemporary poet, who died tragically in a car accident in the communist era. 

Lori, Haghbad & Sanahin Tour

Drive through one of the most picturesque mountains of Armenia, the region of Lori towards the north, rich with forests and rivers.

You will visit one of the largest medieval monasteries of Armenia, the Haghbad monastery complex. The monastery was founded in 976. The oldest structure of the monastery is the church of Holy Sign.

Next you will visit the monastery of Sanahin. This monastery was a major religious and cultural center of medieval Armenia.

The last stop on this trip would be the picturesque area of the monastery of Ozune. The specialists date it to the 6th century. This monastery has been rebuilt and has reached our days in a relatively good condition. 

Tsaghkadzor Tour

Skiing anyone?

The Tsaghkadzor ("Valley of flowers") mountain resort is located on the eastern slope of the Teghenis mountain, 52 km north of Yerevan. There is ski lift, operating in season, which leads to the top of the Teghenis mountain.

You will also visit the town's Kecharis monastery, a religious and cultural center of medieval Armenia built in the 11th to 13th centuries, and comprised of three chapels.

Sardarabad Museum Tour

Pay tribute to the heroes of the Battle of Sardarabad!

The Sardarabad Memorial and Museum ensemble was built in 1968 to make the victory over Turkey in the Battle of Sardarabad in 1918, which led to the first independent Republic of Armenia in 1918.

Here you will visit the largest ethnographic museum in Armenia, rich with artifacts and memorabilia.

Tatev Tour

Visit the majestic Tatev monastery, a former center for the sciences and arts, where many famous Armenians lived and created centuries ago.

The Tatev complex consists of three churches, a refectory, a library, a vault, and several residences. Magnificent canyons surround the monastery.

About 8 km from Goris is the cave village of Khndzoresk, a picture perfect valley with a stream running through it, where many caves and rock formations are waiting to be explored.      
 

Karahunje (Stone Hendge) Tour

Wander upon Armenia's ancient enigma, and visit the complex of stones which has been dated at 7,500 B.C., making it older then England's famous Stonehenge!

Enjoy the Shaki waterfall near the city of Sissian. From there, take a short drive to Karahundje, where you will see a formation believed to have been used as an astrological device.

 

Noraduz Tour

Examine the beautiful and intricate designs of stone crosses, and a cyclopean fortress besides!  The lakeshore community of Noraduz, located northeast of Gavar, is famous for the biggest cemetery of "kachkar"s (stone crosses) in Armenia, dating back to the 9th-10th centuries as well as a fortress dating from the 3rd to 1st millennium, B.C. The walls of the fortress were built with crude basalt rocks, 3 to 4 meters thick. The fortress is located next to the village of Ljashen, on the shore of Lake Sevan.

Medzamor Settlement Tour

Take a trip through time, to a place that boasts 6,700 years of continuous inhabitaion. The Medzamor culture thrived through the Bronze and early Iron Age it was integrated into the Urartu Empire in 7 B.C., and later continued under the Persians, Greeks, Romans, Byzantine and Ottomans until the 18th century, when it was abandoned.

This tour will take you to the Medzamor settlement, with a trip to the Medzamor Museum. This Museum holds hundreds of artifacts excavated from this settlement.
